Product Information
Melanotan II (MT2) – 10 mg / 3 mL
Advanced Melanocortin Receptor Agonist | Pigmentation & Melanin Research
Melanotan II, commonly known as MT2, is a synthetic cyclic peptide developed as an analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a naturally occurring hormone involved in skin pigmentation and melanocortin signalling.
MT2 has attracted scientific interest for its ability to interact with melanocortin receptors, particularly those involved in melanin production, pigmentation regulation and other biological processes.
Its distinctive receptor activity has made it a subject of research in dermatology, pigmentation biology and neuroendocrine signalling.
How Does Melanotan II Work?
Melanotan II interacts with several melanocortin receptors, influencing different biological pathways:
-
MC1R – Melanin Production: Activates signalling pathways in melanocytes, the specialised skin cells responsible for producing melanin.
-
Pigmentation Regulation: Investigated for its ability to influence eumelanin production, the pigment associated with darker skin and hair colouring.
-
MC3R & MC4R – Neuroendocrine Signalling: Studied for their involvement in appetite regulation, energy balance and central nervous system activity.
-
Sexual Response Pathways: Explored experimentally for its interactions with melanocortin receptors involved in sexual arousal.
-
Photobiology Research: Investigated to better understand the relationship between melanin production, skin pigmentation and ultraviolet radiation responses.
Although MT2 can stimulate pigmentation pathways, increased melanin does not guarantee protection against UV damage.
