Selective Growth Hormone Secretagogue | Endocrine & Metabolic Research
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide belonging to the growth hormone secretagogue (GHS) family. Developed to selectively stimulate growth hormone release, Ipamorelin has attracted scientific interest for its interactions with the body's endocrine system and growth hormone regulation.
Unlike growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analogues such as Tesamorelin, Ipamorelin acts primarily through the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a), stimulating growth hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland.
Its selective mechanism has made it an important subject of research in endocrinology, hormone signalling and metabolic physiology.
How Does Ipamorelin Work?
Ipamorelin interacts with growth hormone secretagogue receptors, influencing several biological pathways:
-
Growth Hormone Stimulation: Demonstrated in experimental studies to stimulate endogenous growth hormone (GH) release through activation of ghrelin receptors.
-
Selective Hormonal Activity: Preclinical studies suggest greater selectivity for GH release compared with certain earlier growth hormone-releasing peptides, with less stimulation of ACTH and cortisol.
-
IGF-1 Signalling: Investigated in relation to the growth hormone–IGF-1 axis, which plays an important role in growth, cellular regulation and metabolism.
-
Lipid Metabolism: Of scientific interest for studying the relationship between growth hormone activity, fat metabolism and energy regulation.
-
Tissue & Recovery Biology: Relevant to research into growth hormone-dependent tissue maintenance and protein metabolism, although direct recovery benefits from Ipamorelin have not been clinically established.
-
Gastrointestinal Function: Investigated in clinical trials for postoperative gastrointestinal recovery, although significant clinical effectiveness was not demonstrated.
